People Can’t Believe These Stunning Cars Are Made in China
12. Mengshi M800
The Mengshi M800 is a full-size luxury extended-range electric off-road SUV made by Dongfeng M-Hero (猛士, "Mengshi" = Fierce Warrior) — Dongfeng Motor's ultra-premium electric off-road brand. Launched in September 2024, it's the brand's flagship model: bigger, more exclusive, and more brutal than its sibling the M-Hero 917.
The name isn't marketing — Mengshi is a direct descendant of China's actual military off-road vehicle program, and the brand carries that DNA into every design choice.
Think of it as a military command vehicle that escaped the base, got a carbon fiber makeover, and now costs more than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
The Lineup (China Prices in USD)
M800 Flat Roof: ~$121,000, Standard spec, carbon fiber hood & body
M800 High Roof: ~$135,000, Taller roofline, more interior headroom, full carbon spec
Why It's a Big Deal
Size: Massive — 5,136 mm long, 2,172 mm wide, 2,063 mm tall, on a 2,950 mm wheelbase. Wider than a G-Wagon, taller than a Cadillac Escalade. Curb weight: 3,270 kg (~7,200 lbs). This is a full-scale fortress.
Powertrain: Extended-range hybrid — a 1.5T petrol engine acts purely as a generator (no mechanical connection to the wheels), feeding three electric motors with a combined 816 hp and enormous torque. Pure EV driving feel with near-unlimited range on a full tank.
CATL Battery: NMC ternary battery pack from CATL — one of the world's most advanced cell manufacturers — paired with 800V charging architecture.
Off-Road Hardware: Mengshi all-terrain system, VMC dynamic control, crab mode, creep mode, transparent chassis view (cameras show what's under the vehicle in real time), front and rear electronic differential locks, front and rear tow hooks, and a wading depth of 850 mm (33.5 inches) — that's deeper than most rivers you'll ever cross.
Suspension: Active air suspension with 150 mm of ride height adjustment. Ground clearance: 221 mm at minimum, 326 mm at maximum. Rear-wheel steering with a 10.27-degree angle.
The Drone Helipad: Yes, really. The M800 comes with a roof-mounted drone landing pad, integrated with the vehicle's electronics — control your drone from the cockpit infotainment system. Nothing says "I own this terrain" quite like launching surveillance from your roof.
Exterior: "Mecha-style" angular body lines, carbon fiber hood and roof standard, carbon fiber rear backpack storage unit, 20-inch all-terrain tires, integrated LED fog lights with cornering assist, and a signature front grille that's smaller but more aggressive than the 917.
Interior: 4-seat layout in Obsidian Black, Interstellar Gray, Hermes Orange, or Morandi Green. Carbon fiber center console panels, floating instrument panel, dual large screens (driver + co-pilot), and a rear command cabin feel. Built for 4 people who need to feel like they're in a military operations room.
Angles: Approach angle 24°, departure angle 30°. Combined with the wading depth and the suspension range, it's genuinely capable of terrain that would stop a Land Rover cold.
