Apple TV has officially unveiled the first teaser for Widow’s Bay, its upcoming original series that looks set to blend eerie suspense with sharp, offbeat humor. Fronted by Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, who also serves as an executive producer, the new show introduces viewers to a strange little island where the local legends may be more real than anyone wants to admit.

Set on a remote island off the New England coast, Widow’s Bay follows Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Rhys, as he tries to breathe new life into a struggling community that seems frozen in time. The island has no Wi-Fi, unreliable cell service, and a deeply superstitious population convinced their home is cursed. Loftis, eager to prove himself and build a better future for his teenage son, sets out to turn the sleepy town into a tourist destination. Against the odds, it starts to work — until the stories everyone dismissed begin creeping back into the real world.

The series is being positioned as a genre-bending mix of genuine horror and character-driven comedy, giving it a tone that feels both unsettling and darkly playful. Alongside Rhys, the ensemble cast includes Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey, with K Callan and Emmy winner Jeff Hiller also joining in supporting roles.

Widow’s Bay comes from creator, showrunner, and executive producer Katie Dippold, with acclaimed filmmaker Hiro Murai directing and executive producing. Murai will helm five episodes in the first season, with additional episodes directed by Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung. The series is produced by Apple Studios, with Murai executive producing through Chum Films alongside Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, and Rhys.

The 10-episode season is set to premiere globally on April 29, 2026, launching with its first two episodes. New episodes will then arrive every Wednesday through June 17, with a special two-episode drop scheduled for May 27. With its creepy small-town atmosphere, oddball characters, and a mystery lurking just beneath the surface, Widow’s Bay is already shaping up to be one of Apple TV’s most intriguing new originals of the year.
