Apple TV is diving into darker true-story territory with the launch of Twisted Yoga, a new three-part docuseries premiering globally on March 13, 2026. Positioned as a gripping look at power, manipulation and spiritual deception, the series traces the rise of a controversial international yoga movement and the women who say they became trapped inside it.

Twisted Yoga follows a group of young students from around the world who turned to yoga in search of peace, meaning and personal transformation. Instead, according to the series, many found themselves pulled into the orbit of reclusive Romanian figure Gregorian Bivolaru, a self-styled spiritual leader whose teachings and private rituals allegedly masked a far more troubling reality.

As the story unfolds, the women at the center of the documentary begin to question whether they had joined not just a wellness community, but a cult built on secrecy, control and fear. The series examines claims that select female followers were summoned for private “initiations” in Paris, where what was presented as spiritual guidance allegedly crossed into something deeply disturbing.

The docuseries also follows the legal fallout now surrounding Bivolaru, who is facing serious charges in France, including allegations of human trafficking, kidnapping and rape. He denies the accusations. Through firsthand testimony and an investigative lens, Twisted Yoga focuses on the women working with French authorities as they push for accountability.

Behind the camera, the project arrives with a strong pedigree in prestige documentary storytelling. Twisted Yoga is produced by the acclaimed team at Lightbox in association with Ladywell Films, with executive producers Simon Chinn, Jonathan Chinn, Suzanne Lavery and Bernadette Higgins attached. Direction comes from Rowan Deacon, whose past work has explored similarly complex and disturbing real-life subjects.

With its mix of psychological tension, survivor testimony and international scandal, Twisted Yoga looks poised to become one of Apple TV’s most talked-about nonfiction releases this spring. For viewers drawn to true crime and documentary exposés with a darker edge, this one may be hard to look away from.
