Netflix is heading straight into the heart of British power with The Lords’ Day, a new action thriller that promises political intrigue, hostage tension, and a race against time inside one of the country’s most iconic institutions.

The upcoming series is based on a novel by Michael Dobbs, the same writer whose work inspired House of Cards, and early details suggest Netflix is aiming for a sharp, fast-moving thriller with a distinctly British edge. While the streamer has not announced a premiere date yet, the project is already shaping up as one to watch for fans of political suspense and survival dramas.

At the center of the story is Harry Jones, a British spy played by Damson Idris, who finds himself trapped inside the Palace of Westminster during the State Opening of Parliament. What begins as a ceremonial day quickly turns into a nightmare when the building is placed under lockdown and a hostage siege spirals out of control. With loyalties shifting and lives on the line, Harry is forced into a desperate fight to keep the situation from collapsing completely.

Netflix describes the series as a tense action thriller set in the middle of England’s corridors of power, combining espionage, political danger, and a confined high-pressure setting. That setup alone gives The Lords’ Day a built-in sense of urgency, especially with Westminster serving as both the symbolic and literal battleground.

Behind the camera, the series comes with a strong creative team. Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent, known for projects including Spooks, Humans, and Better, are writing the series, while Ben Chanan, whose credits include The Capture and The Missing, is directing. Netflix also confirmed that Jane Tranter and Dan McCulloch are executive producing for Bad Wolf, the studio behind acclaimed series such as Industry and His Dark Materials.

For now, Damson Idris is the only cast member officially announced, with Netflix noting that more names will be revealed later. That leaves plenty of room for speculation around who will join the show’s political and intelligence-world ensemble as the project moves closer to release.

With its mix of espionage, institutional power, and life-or-death stakes inside Parliament, The Lords’ Day looks like it could land somewhere between a political thriller and a siege drama — exactly the kind of prestige-leaning, adrenaline-fueled series Netflix has been leaning into lately. Until a release date arrives, it’s firmly on the list of upcoming titles worth keeping an eye on.
