Netflix Unveils Gritty Trailer for 1990s Undercover Thriller Legends

Netflix is taking viewers back to the high-stakes world of the 1990s with the first trailer for its upcoming crime drama Legends. The six-part series, which is set to premiere this spring, tells the remarkable true story of an unconventional government operation designed to turn the tide in Britain's failing war on drugs. Unlike traditional spy thrillers that focus on polished secret agents, this story centers on the ordinary men and women who were plucked from their desk jobs at Her Majesty's Customs and Excise to do the unthinkable.

The newly released footage introduces a star-studded cast led by Steve Coogan and Tom Burke. Coogan plays Don, the man overseeing a desperate mission to plant operatives inside the country’s most violent criminal organizations. Because the department lacked the resources of the traditional intelligence services, they recruited everyday employees who had no formal training in espionage. These recruits had to quickly learn how to survive in the criminal underworld by adopting entirely new identities, known in the trade as legends.

The trailer highlights the immense psychological and physical toll of the mission, as these amateur spies struggle to maintain their covers while living alongside dangerous drug lords. Creator Neil Forsyth, who previously garnered acclaim for his work on The Gold and Guilt, emphasized that the series aims to honor a group of people whose bravery has remained largely unrecognized by the public. He noted that many of the real-life individuals involved came from modest backgrounds and saw the mission as a rare, albeit terrifying, chance to escape the predictability of their everyday lives.

Directed by Brady Hood and Julian Holmes, the series promises a blend of period-accurate tension and raw human drama. The supporting cast includes notable names such as Hayley Squires, Tom Hughes, and Aml Ameen, all of whom play members of the undercover team.
