Apple TV+ Sets Dark Matter Season 2 Premiere for August 28 as Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly Return
Apple TV+ has officially set the return of Dark Matter, with the acclaimed sci-fi thriller coming back for its second season on August 28, 2026. Alongside the date reveal, the streamer also shared a first look at the new chapter of the series, which continues to adapt Blake Crouch’s bestselling novel universe for the screen.
The new season will roll out across 10 episodes, beginning with its premiere on August 28 and continuing with one new episode each Friday through October 30. Joel Edgerton returns to lead the cast as Jason Dessen, joined once again by Jennifer Connelly, with Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley, and Amanda Brugel also back for the next phase of the story.
After the chaos and reality-bending tension of the first season, season two picks up as the Dessen family attempts to rebuild and settle into a life that finally feels safe. That calm doesn’t last long. As Jason becomes increasingly consumed by the mystery and power of the Box, Daniela finds herself unraveling under growing fear and suspicion, putting their already fragile sense of peace at risk. Elsewhere, Amanda and Ryan are forced into a desperate alliance as they search for a path back home, while Leighton pushes forward with his dangerous vision of creating a so-called perfect world.
Dark Matter remains one of Apple TV+’s most ambitious genre titles, blending emotional family drama with high-concept science fiction. The series is based on Crouch’s celebrated novel, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, and has earned a strong reputation among sci-fi fans for its layered take on identity, regret, and the alternate lives we might have lived.
Behind the scenes, Blake Crouch continues to serve as creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Season two is produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Matt Tolmach, Richard Lederer, and Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry also executive producing. Ben-Zekry co-wrote every episode of the new season alongside Crouch, while both Edgerton and Connelly expand their involvement as executive producers in addition to starring roles.
With its return date now locked in and first-look images teasing another intense descent into parallel worlds, Dark Matter is shaping up to be one of late summer’s biggest genre releases. For fans who have been waiting to see where Jason’s journey goes next, the countdown officially begins.
