Apple TV has officially lifted the curtain on Cape Fear, unveiling the first teaser for its upcoming psychological horror thriller led by Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson. The new limited series is already shaping up to be one of the platform’s most talked-about releases of the summer, pairing a prestige cast with a dark, tension-soaked premise rooted in one of Hollywood’s most enduring thriller stories.

Set to premiere globally on June 5, 2026, Cape Fear will launch with its first two episodes before continuing weekly through July 31. The 10-episode event series comes from creator, showrunner, and executive producer Nick Antosca, whose name has become closely associated with unsettling, character-driven suspense. Behind the scenes, the project carries even more heavyweight pedigree, with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg serving as executive producers, further raising expectations around the series’ cinematic ambitions.

The story centers on a seemingly stable married couple, attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, played by Adams and Wilson, whose lives are thrown into chaos when a dangerous figure from their past resurfaces. Bardem takes on the role of Max Cady, a notorious killer whose release from prison reignites a long-buried nightmare and sets a relentless revenge plot in motion. The setup promises a claustrophobic, emotionally charged thriller where personal history becomes the fuel for escalating terror.

Inspired by the 1991 film adaptation directed by Scorsese and produced by Spielberg, the series also draws from the legacy of The Executioners, the novel that first introduced the chilling cat-and-mouse dynamic at the heart of the story. Rather than simply revisiting familiar material, this new version appears poised to reframe the property for a modern audience, leaning into psychological dread while exploring obsession, trauma, and the lingering consequences of violence.

Beyond its central trio, the ensemble cast includes CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov. The series is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, alongside Amblin Television. Morten Tyldum is set to direct the pilot and also executive produce, adding another acclaimed creative voice to the project’s stacked lineup.

With its first teaser now out in the world, Cape Fear is arriving with the kind of atmosphere and pedigree that instantly commands attention. Between Bardem’s menacing screen presence, Adams and Wilson’s emotionally fraught dynamic, and the shadow of a beloved thriller legacy hanging over every frame, Apple TV’s latest prestige limited series looks ready to deliver a stylish and deeply unsettling ride when it debuts this June.
